Jedi for Kids teaches kids about Swordsmanship in a fun and creative way, utilizing our combat training lightsabers. Students also practice meditation and basic Martial Arts techniques. We teach the kids to develop patience, honour, respect, courage, and discipline through fun and Jedi themed training games. Participants of the Jedi for Kids program will be equipped with safety glasses as well as the use of our combat lightsabers. Each student is allowed to bring their own Nerfguns to use as blasters, and each student should bring their own protective gloves (hockey or lacrosse Gloves will do) to protect their hands and fingers from injury. We have some loaner gloves for new students just getting started, but each student will eventually have to supply their own hand protection.
Ages 13+
Teen Buhurt is a continuation of the weapons related skills learned in the Ninja and Jedi for Kids programs, bridging into more realistic fighting techniques. Classes put a heavy emphasis on sparring and students will gain confidence and learn honour through armoured combat sparring, utilizing techniques and etiquette related to HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts), Kenjutsu (Traditional Japanese Sword Techniques) and Buhurt (Medieval Armoured Sport Combat). We have loaner weapons and armour for students who are just starting out, but all participants are expected to supply their own protective fencing helmet, clam shell gauntlets, forearm and elbow protection, a sports cup for boys, and chest plate for girls as the bare minimum amount of safety equipment required to spar. Teens will begin with foam trainers, and quickly move on to synthetic nylon weapons as they gain more experience and safety equipment. Top students may be allowed to spar with blunted steel weapons, provided they have sufficient skill and armoured protection to do so safely. The Movement School is home of the Thousand Island Warriors Buhurt Team and as such Teen members who become 18 years of age are eligible to join the team.
