ADULT PROGRAMS

Adult Parkour

Ages 16+
Adults with no previous experience will begin by first learning the basic safety techniques related to Parkour. For example, how to land from heights, how to breakfall, how to roll safely, how to do a safety vault, etc. Participants learn courage by facing their fears, pushing their limits and will become stronger through strength and conditioning drills, coordination exercises, and more. Adults with some skill and experience will quickly advance to learning more difficult Parkour techniques. The Movement School utilizes a 9 tiered level system where each level’s techniques build upon the last to better help the individual develop as a Traceur (Parkour Athlete). The Adult program focuses on training best suited to each individual student, and helps them advance their skill at their own pace.

Martial Fencing

Ages 13+
Participants will learn weapons related skills and realistic fighting techniques. Classes put a heavy emphasis on sparring. Participants will gain confidence through armoured combat sparring utilizing techniques related to HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) and Buhurt (Medieval Armoured Sport Combat). We have loaner weapons and armour for adults (size depending) who are just starting out, but all participants are expected to supply their own protective fencing helmet, clam shell gauntlets, forearm and elbow protection, a sports cup for men, and chest plate for women as the bare minimum for safety. Teens will begin with foam trainers, and quickly move to synthetic nylon weapons as they get more experience and safety equipment. All adult students will begin with Nylon training weapons and as they gain experience and skill will advance to sparring with blunted steel weapons. The Movement School is home of the Thousand Island Warriors Buhurt Team and as such Teen members who become 18 years of age are eligible to join the team.
